Who we are

About Uplyft

Uplyft is a Non- Profit Organisation focused on strengthening the SMME sector by addressing the gaps that exist in the current South African SMME Support Ecosystem, specifically funding, enabling services and enabling technology. By shoring up the SMME support eco-system, Uplift will de-risk SMMEs to the point that they can access the resources they currently lack to be both successful and sustainable.

Uplyft’s strategy for de-risking SMMEs - thus enabling their success, growth and job creation - is to promote their organisation into into SMME Collectives, based on models successful implemented by the National Treasury’s Jobs Fund. The strategy will include the leveraging of Jobs Fund Partners that have gone through the learning curve already and have proven themselves as robust and reliable enablers of SMMEs.

Our Mission

To promote, establish and develop SMME Collectives as the preferred vehicle to reduce the risk and improve the bankability of SMMEs within the Agriculture, Construction and Mining sectors.

Our Vision

To create stable and sustainable enterprise opportunities in the target sectors through creating or strengthening existing SMME Collectives, which in turn provide enabling resources and services to the SMMEs.

Our Story

Uplyft started in June 2020 as an initiative to understand and address the economic have caused by COVID-19. The initiative launched a survey completed by over 2,000 businesses, with the results being featured by 33 media houses, resulting in an earned media value of R20.6 million.

Subsequent surveys have included input from 6,712 businesses; and have underlined the opportunity for SMMEs to leverage (out of their difficult circumstances) by mirroring the risk profile of corporate counterparts.
